Uncle Crappy

words. pictures. beer.

Here it is.

While I was checking out the new Blogger templates last week, I also started looking for alternatives. I just didn’t see anything on Blogger that really felt like it would work for me and, as I said last week, some of the Blogger shells that had been designed outside the system were beyond my modest coding capabilities.

So I found WordPress. And this template. And I felt like this was the one. And here we are.

Blogger had made a ton of improvements in the last six months or so and if I had been able to get past the template issue, I’d probably still be there. But overall, WordPress is a lot more flexible … a lot easier to deal with. And that, boys and girls, opens the door to more improvements in the future: Howsabout an Uncle Crappy podcast? Hmmm….

There are some limitations here as well. WordPress has a reputation as not playing nice with pix; I can tell you that reputation is one-hundred-percent correct. And I’m still in the middle of tweaking the sidebar; I’m certain you’ll notice lots of changes over there in the next couple of weeks.

For your purposes, this version of Uncle Crappy shouldn’t be that different. WordPress doesn’t offer word verification for comments, but it is set up to make things easy for the regulars. Your first comment here will be moderated; as HP can tell you, that mean I get to review it before it gets posted. But after I’ve approved you once, you shouldn’t have to go through that again. Unless you’re including more than, I think, two links in your post, in which case your comment will be marked as spam and the 101st Airborne will firebomb your house. So let’s stay away from those Viagra ads, OK?

Besides that, this should feel pretty familiar. All the stuff from the old page has been ported over, even the comments. Categories are the same. And I get older and grumpier by the minute, so fun will continue unabated.

So. There it is. Hope you like.
