Things were looking good YinzTeam at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday — we were on the precipice of our first victory, which would have easily qualified as the greatest upset in the history of sports.

And then our manager told the umpire we’d give the other team another five minutes to let all its players get to the field.

Things were looking even better at 6:40 p.m., when the umpire waved his hands to call the game a forfeit … and then we looked out to the outfield and saw the last royal blue shirt walking towards the diamond. And in an incredible display of sportsmanship and generosity — not to mention a pretty serious collective brain cramp — we said we’d play.

Unfortunately, our generosity continued well into the game. In the form of runs we gave the Royal Blues. Yeah, we lost again.

So we went drinking, which is something we do very well.

That was a great season. I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates. I couldn’t be happier that The Wife and I got to be part of YInzTeam. We took a couple of more straightforward team pix after the game, but this one better illustrates what we’re all about. I hope to convince The Wife that this should totally be on our Christmas cards this year.

Thanks, y’all. Let’s do it again next year, OK?

  1. I have to give Jim credit for putting up with us misfits all season. While record wise this is the first team that I haven’t won a game on, I will admit that this was the most fun I have ever had playing softball in my life.

Next year we need to have spring training for some fielding drills and everyone start taking HGH.

Oh and bring more fucking towels.

  3. I have no intention of not putting the team on the field again. In fact, if my little demon baby’s arrival weren’t so imminent, I’d try and put us on the field in the fall.

We’re going to start practicing as soon as the weather gets decent in the spring.

  4. TTG: That’s the best idea I’ve heard in a long time.

Jim: We should start practicing in February. Outside. Building character and all that stuff.

Actually, we should probably start practicing now.

  5. I can house your team here in Clearwater next Spring. If you don’t mind sleeping on the floor.

Congrats on a season of fun…after all…that’s what it’s all about.
