If you know me, you know one of my very favorite things about Pittsburgh is the annual Three Rivers Arts Festival.
If you know me a little better, you know that my very favorite thing about the arts festival is the series of free, nightly concerts, which return to the point this year.
As I do most years, I look at the schedule and think: OK. Gonna be spending a lot of time down there for the next 10 days. We’re starting tonight, with an official tweetup for the Black Keys show at 8. And while I would love to see Medeski, Martin and Wood on Saturday, I think Game Five of the Stanley Cup finals is going to win out.
But if you’re up for taking in a show, here’s what I have planned for the rest of the festival. Because of work obligations and hockey playoffs, this is subject to change.
- Tonight: The Black Keys
- Tuesday: Donora
- Wednesday: Toubab Krewe
- Thursday: Booker T
- Friday: Robert Randolph and the Family Band
I was thinking about concerts today too (because I am going to see the Decemberists tomorrow.)
I grew up in Pittsburgh and never went to the arts festival. Makes me sad.
Trombone Shorty sounds interesting.

Susan: I had lived here for almost 10 years before I figured out the live music portion of the festival. I missed a lot of good stuff.
And Trombone Shorty sounds interesting to me, too. But there are always one or two shows every year I have to miss because I work on Sundays; this year, it’s those guys and The Wailers.
