I’ve said this before: my Pittsburgh people tend to emphasize the “social” part of Social Media. And while we had two days filled with excellent sessions during Podcamp Pittsburgh 4 — some of which I’ll discuss tomorrow — we also managed to have some fun.

This year’s 649, as interpreted by my buddy Michael:

We also witnessed the creation of a new Podcamp tradition, also shot by Michael:

And then there was this, my very own birthday chops, as shot by Sorg:

Yeah. Ow.

  1. 1. I am officially scared of 649. It’s probably a good thing I missed this.

    2. I am a little confused. Are these three of the same vids, or did I miss something?

  2. RPM: Thanks for noticing the vids. The right ones were up last night — which is why Woody was able to see me in all my Ohio State splendor. I have no idea what happened…

  3. And now I am scared to tell people about my birthday. and I LIKE my birthday. What is this chop thing? I look enough like I will break, right? People won’t do that to me.

    RIGHT?

  4. First of all, I’m quite happy to have avoided the 649 shot that included not only Tequila but ALSO Razzmatazz? Who the eff does that? No one. No one in their right mind. True.

Secondly, I am sorry you had to experience the Chop. It happened right after I showed up, I was dragged out by @MrsCrappy, but I’m super sorry about that…. However, I AM SURE I would like to give the Chop to someone next year… Ok. It might be slightly more violent than the rest… (I am exempt from receiving the chop due to rugby and OH-MY-GOD-HAVE-YOU-SEEN-MY-DAMN-KNEES-LATELY? I can’t tell if I have bruises or dirt. FIVE DAYS LATER)

Also, soooo happy @Dahcheet caught my dirty rugby self in the background of the PCPGH4 dance. Yeah, that’s great…

Who has footage of the rest of me from that appearance? We can make a game out of selecting what’s mud/dirt and what is a bruise. I’ll take pics now to see what we can come up with.

    Oy. That is all.

  5. RPM: The chop is a tradition brought to the group by the Wrestling Mayhem Show folks. It has to do with Rick Flair and, uh, some other stuff. I don’t think chops are administered to the unwilling, but you might want to avoid the Sorg, Chachi, Lunchbox and V Rock around your birthday, just in case.

AAA: You do NOT get to chop anybody, at least not until after Brewfest is over.

  6. as an outsider to the activities, I have to say that I’ve not seen before nor really understand the ‘chop’ – is it done on your 1st birthday? 80th? I guess I need some local edumication on it

Seems like you had a fun time – I don’t turn 43 for a long, long time

  7. Kewyson: We didn’t even get a flurry in Pittsburgh — it was all east of here. Believe me, once it starts I will appropriately out of control.

  8. Fred asked me this morning if I would do a birthday chop. I said no before I ever saw this. I repeat: No. Thanks! Yikes! Hugs only for me, please. :-)
