culture. and drinks.

I spent a portion of my day off dahn in Pixburke, taking in a lunchtime lecture by a prof at CMU, David Shumway, who is writing a book about the cultural influences music had on the 1960s and vice versa. His lecture today was about the contrasting versions of the 60s presented by the Rolling Stones and the Grateful Dead. Interesting stuff, that I’ll discuss later.

Because then I met The Wife, went on an unsuccessful clothing expedition, had dinner and came back home and had beers on the porch. And now it’s midnight, and the neighbors, I’m certain, are getting a little tired of the giggling emanating from the Crappy porch.

  1. More on the lecture and soon please, Uncle Crappy. Given your love of / familiarity with both bands, your take ought to be damned interesting. Also brings to mind an old quote about the beatles reaching for your mind, the stones grabbing your crotch, and the kinks aiming directly at your funny bone. Can’t remember who said it. Hell, maybe it was you…

  2. After an unsuccessful clothing expedition, some shots might have gone well with the beers on the Crappy porch. As to the neighbors, they can deal. It is better to giggle all night around a bond fire by the lake when the nearest neighbors are down by Rt. 314.

Terrible pressure, but I too am looking forward to hearing more about the Shumway talk.
