I tend to know way too much about this football rivalry, and an awful lot of it comes from personal experience. So because I’m not yet fired up enough about Saturday, we’re going to go through some of those memories. If you have recollections of the same year, please pass them on. Here’s my first:
1975
The memories of this are a little fuzzy, as I was 9 years old, but I recall watching the 1975 game at the home of friends of my parents. This is the one when we scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter — the winning score came after a Ray Griffin interception and long return — to win 21-14. Although Archie Griffin didn’t reach 100 yards rushing for the first time in like three seasons, he was happy to take the win and leave Ohio State having never lost to Michigan.
I was still learning about what it was to be an Ohio State fan, and this was the game that sealed it for me forever. Grown men and women, yelling like the game was being played in the backyard. And then walking down the street and teepeeing the home of a neighboring Michigan fan. These were my adult role models.
And that explains a lot.
