This was the road game where Jim Laughlin blocked a punt which Todd Bell scooped up and ran back for a touchdown to win the game 18-15. That wrapped up a perfect regular season, but we lost a heartbreaker in the Rose Bowl when Charles White ran for about 500 yards and the winning touchdown. And I had someone try to explain later why I should be happy that he had been drafted by the Browns…
The thing I remember about this game was that we watched at a really unusual place, a warehouse of some kind in Westerville. Again, this was more of a grown-up thing, but I was as happy as anyone of the big group when we got to Michigan’s punter at the end of the game. And I remember taking a huge, homemade Ohio State flag (which I have kept) and waving it at the end of a huge pole as traffic roaring by on 270 honked in approval.
