a nice gesture.

All over Austin, people walk around doing this, on the right, with their hands. The gesture, I believe, is meant to represent the mascot of their school and football team. Interesting, yes, but perhaps a bit ambiguous. I can see how this could lead one to think of a cow, but I’m not as clear on what this says about Texas athletics or pride in that godforsaken state. Maybe someone could explain…

It does, however, lead me to think of double cheesburgers. Morton’s of Chicago. A plate of steaming, sizzling beef fajitas. I see this gesture, and I immediately get hungry.

There’s a similar gesture, on the left, that’s frequently been on display in Columbus since about the beginning of August. The differences are slight; in fact, the repositioned pinky finger is the only physical change.

This one doesn’t make me think about food, though. It pretty clearly is about football. And while the burnt orangers are busy trying to hook ’em on Saturday, by the end of the evening, the boys in the white jerseys will be the ones with the single finger in the air.

More to come.

  1. Hmm. Yeah. You’ve got football on the brain, as you’ve clearly mentioned.

As I’m sure you know, the longwhores appropriated their hand gesture (inappropriately) from heavy metal. Which begat the general ‘this rocks’ gesture. Which begat this.

But then again, you were there. You already knew that.

  2. Innocent people were possibly harmed during the shooting of the above picture. Specifically, the ones behind the dancer.

  3. nice post! even though it says its kristi, i’m actually her husband, dan the man. anyway, if you have the ability to get film from the fist game, look at pittman. he is either misleading the folks on purpose who are watching (texas), or he is just not hitting the holes. a significaint improvement can be witnessed in the texas game, where he hit every hole they had opened up to him. isn’t tressel ball fun to watch!? i think he is always playing chess with the opposing coaches, even many games out from their match-up. I can’t wait to beat the snot out of the team from up north…GO BUCKS!
