Finally — a reason to watch the Grammys.

I long ago gave up on watching the Grammys broadcast, because it had little to do with music that I listened to. For a long time, it had little to do with music that anyone listened to, but that’s changed. Some.

This year, I’ll make an effort. That’s because The Recording Academy will bestow a lifetime achievement award on the Grateful Dead this year.

This is a little surprising, because the Grammys have pretty much ignored GD for the band’s entire career. The award, which I understand will at least be mentioned during the Feb. 11 broadcast, will bring the band’s grand total of Grammy awards to one.

Better late than never, I guess. If the boys show up, maybe they’ll bring along that cardboard Garcia that showed up when they were inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.
