Here it is.
While I was checking out the new Blogger templates last week, I also started looking for alternatives. I just didn’t see anything on Blogger that really felt like it would work for me and, as I said last week, some of the Blogger shells that had been designed outside the system were beyond my modest coding capabilities.
So I found WordPress. And this template. And I felt like this was the one. And here we are.
Blogger had made a ton of improvements in the last six months or so and if I had been able to get past the template issue, I’d probably still be there. But overall, WordPress is a lot more flexible … a lot easier to deal with. And that, boys and girls, opens the door to more improvements in the future: Howsabout an Uncle Crappy podcast? Hmmm….
There are some limitations here as well. WordPress has a reputation as not playing nice with pix; I can tell you that reputation is one-hundred-percent correct. And I’m still in the middle of tweaking the sidebar; I’m certain you’ll notice lots of changes over there in the next couple of weeks.
For your purposes, this version of Uncle Crappy shouldn’t be that different. WordPress doesn’t offer word verification for comments, but it is set up to make things easy for the regulars. Your first comment here will be moderated; as HP can tell you, that mean I get to review it before it gets posted. But after I’ve approved you once, you shouldn’t have to go through that again. Unless you’re including more than, I think, two links in your post, in which case your comment will be marked as spam and the 101st Airborne will firebomb your house. So let’s stay away from those Viagra ads, OK?
Besides that, this should feel pretty familiar. All the stuff from the old page has been ported over, even the comments. Categories are the same. And I get older and grumpier by the minute, so fun will continue unabated.
So. There it is. Hope you like.
Just had to check out how easy it is to leave a comment…so far so good.
Try selling all the beverage sports cups at the garage sale..you’d be amazed at what people will buy. Make sure mom and dad aren’t selling any of my stuff this weekend.
Good luck with this new site.

Part of the reason we’re going this weekend is to help them out. And the other part is to make sure Mom isn’t selling, like, our elementary-school artwork…

UC, congratulations. You are feeling exactly what it’s like when you move from a starter home to the dream house you’ve always wanted. Or, maybe not. Regardless, keep up the good work and keep us informed and laughing.

…cracking up about Mom UC selling your 4th Grade Artwork. She’s thinking to herself, “…lets get this dusty ole crap Out of Here!” She definitely should not sell Sister’s stuff. You just never know when Sister will bust out some stuff, have a show, and then all her work will be priceless.
Loving the template. Congrats on the big move. It seems to work well on the readers end. Compared to Blogger it’s fast as shit….yay!!
Please, continue to stay grumpy and we will all keep reading.

UC – love that new blog smell! Great look-n-feel. Only complaint is that viewing on my Treo isn’t as nice as blogspot – huge font and page doesn’t fit screen – anything you can do on your end?

It doesn’t look as pretty on my Treo either, but it does load consistently. The Blogger page, for whatever reason, didn’t play nice with my phone — sometimes it would load, but most of the time I would get the source code displayed instead of the actual page.
As far as improving your experience … I’ll, uh, work on that…
