So we were checking out the personal web pages of a former colleague of mine, who now holds a fairly prominent PR post in the Pittsburgh area. His stuff is, uh, a little odd, but fits with the overly intense personality I remember from working with him years ago. We check his page occasionally for giggles, but today we discovered he’d been blogging for nearly a year.
There’s nothing too shocking — again, based on what I know about this guy — but some of the content included some things that might make his employers, uh, uncomfortable. And, oddly, he uses his name, and has pictures available, so it’s not like he’s keeping any of this a secret.
But while the rest of us were having hysterics, one co-worker got a little irritated about his stuff online. A pretty intense person herself, she kept wondering, loudly, whether his employer knew about the blog, and how we should do something about this.
And then she dropped the hammer:
“What kind of 40-year-old does this stuff?”
No. I didn’t raise my hand.
Sounds like age discrimination to me!
