Gosh — it just occurred to me that the Yankees have an opponent in the divisional playoffs.
I hadn’t been certain until this morning — because most of the analysis I’d heard up to this point seemed to focus exclusively on the Yankees. If I came across anything that veered from that path, it was to take a look at how the Yankees would fare against the Red Sox in the ALCS.
So imagine how surprised I was this morning when I turned on Sportscenter and heard that the Yankees actually will be playing games against someone else — against my Indians, in fact.
Now, I can understand this completely. I mean, clearly the Indians have no chance of actually beating New York. It’s not like Cleveland has two legitimate Cy Young candidates in the rotation. Or won something like 24 of the last 30 games of its season to win the division, making it the best team in the majors since mid-August.
Oh. Wait. That was the Indians.
But then — why all the attention on the Yankees? I guess we just don’t have a shot, huh? Probably isn’t even any reason for watching, right?
Hm.
Do I dectect a level of sarcasm in this posting? Being the underdog*, at least in the media, does have advantages.
We’ll be out of town for the NY home games, we were looking for ticket availability –
As I mentioned before, the winner of this series is my choice for the WS, unless the Cubbies are in it, finally –
Have fun drinking beer in historic Gettysburg – I checked their web site out – I like ‘Hoppy Trails IPA’

Oh, I forgot about the Rockies, although I tend to prefer the Avs and, dare I say, Broncos, from my Boulder days (how far I’ve gone to the dark side) – Broncos and Yankees – now, only if I would adopt the NJ Devils and LA Lakers – you’d know I’ve sold my soul

Kewyson. The Yankees I can kind of understand. And maybe even accept. But the Broncos?
Actually, my ideal World Series would be the Tribe vs. the Cubs, whom I learned to love when they were the only baseball available to me while I lived in Kentucky. Everyone talks about the angst-ridden Red Sox fan; believe me, those chowderheads have nothing on Cleveland fans, who haven’t won a baseball title since 1948 or a title of any kind since 1964.
