Whew.
NaBloPoMo is over.
I think I got through 34 posts this month, easily a record for Uncle Crappy. I also got a lot more attention than I’m accustomed to, something I discussed with Cindy at the Blogfest earlier this month. The average daily page views for November was around 54; averages for the preceding months, starting in June were 38, 29, 59, 30 and 25. The other big one was in August, and that number is something of an anomaly, caused by a PittGirl reference and a link on a couple of Grateful Dead message boards. That oddness aside, this month was probably the best I’ve ever
had, at least since I switched to WordPress earlier this year.
So. Did y’all expect me to be extra interesting this month? Or were you wondering if I was going to crash sometime in the last week?
To be honest, I almost did. Some of the other folks wrote openly about their frustrations with trying to come up with something meaningful for 30 straight days — I’m thinking about Rachel and Woy here — and others are still toiling with novels, drawings and blog posts, right down to the wire (actually, I think Cindy has the posts done, and she’s getting close to finishing the 50,000-word beast).
And that effort, boys and girls, is impressive. I didn’t gripe about it much, but there were days when I struggled. If you go back through the month, it’s not too hard to find those days.
What did this do for me? I wrote a couple times earlier in the fall about struggling with what Uncle Crappy should be, as well as trying to reconcile what I saw as two divergent audiences. I went into NaBloPoMo determined not to worry about all that crap. I think I mentioned at the outset of the month that Uncle Crappy was initially supposed to be for, well, me. This month has renewed that for me, and I’ve discovered along the way that people, for some reason, still seem to be interested.
So. That was a pretty good month. I’m happy I got through it. And I think Uncle Crappy will benefit from NaBloPoMo in the future.
Right after I take the weekend off. See y’all Sunday. Maybe.

Congratulations!
And look at you, being all suave with your struggles, something I was incapable of. That’s something.

Hooray and hoorah, you made it with ease and a couple of extra posts! I knew you would.
I’m really pleased that you rediscovered your joy in blogging. I feel the same way — I had hoped to have fun and learn something new, and the adventure exceeding my expectations.
I’m now going to go ice my hands. I believe I will do that by wrapping them around a nice cold glass of something tasty.

Rachel: As The Wife would tell you, my other name is Mr. Grace Under Pressure. Of course, she’d have to stop laughing first. And I’d probably have to take her out to dinner or something…
Cindy: I’d be curious to find out how many people even attempted to complete all three NaNoBloPoDrawMos. You deserve a special place National November Internet Stuff history — and that drink.
