another holiday.

For the second year in a row, my holiday season has been extended by a week, so I can watch Ohio State play for the national championship. We get to tangle with the SEC champs — this time, LSU — for the second-straight January, thereby giving us a chance to maybe end — temporarily at least — all the crap I’ve had to endure about the SEC’s superiority for the last year.

This turn of events prompts some thoughts:

  • I get to start hating Les Miles a lot sooner than I thought.
  • The backlash against Ohio State — which apparently was appointed the BCS poster child sometime recently when I wasn’t paying attention — started even before Sunday night’s selection show and will continue for a while. We’re getting crushed, even though we’re not doing anything that our fellow BCS invitees also do as a matter of course. There will be a post about this, with a lot more detail, coming later this week, but here’s a hint: Games against 1-AA teams and smaller in-state opponents are a lot more common than most people — including SEC fans — think.
  • You may recall a post from a couple of days ago, when I kind of suggested that Oklahoma wouldn’t have too much trouble beating Missouri, which, of course would open up a slot for the Buckeyes in the title game. You may also recall that I also kind of suggested that I had little faith that Pitt could beat West Virginia, which is why I was putting all my eggs in the Sooners’ basket. As it turned out, I couldn’t possibly have been more wrong about the Backyard Brawl and I now publicly apologize to each of the Uncle Crappy readers who have affiliations with the University of Pittsburgh — I think there’s about two of you. Now — can’t you do something about Wannstedt’s mustache? I mean, that thing looks like it was drawn on his face by a 2-year-old.
  • I also need to offer my condolences to Matlock; I was looking forward to an Ohio State-West Virginia matchup in the title game.

  1. The BCS sucks! The Buckeyes should have gotten the “SEC” reprive this year. I believe the Sooners are probably the better pick due to their demolishing of Mizzou the other night.

By the way, great little bar next to Pat O’Briens in NO that serves doubled up hurricanes. Ouch!! Left me “doubled up”!

    Good Luck!

  2. Carolina Boy:

Thanks for the kind words, and good luck finding a coach. Is Gerry Faust doing anything these days? Just a suggestion…

    Sister:

    1) Beat LSU.
    2) A skiing season that lasts from now until April.
    3) Some other stuff.
