vacation.

We have one more day of skiing left before we head back to the Burgh, and I’ll probably be the only one out tomorrow. That’s because of the snow that’s falling so hard that we actually saw lightning and heard thunder outside our window just a few minutes ago. The same snow that started falling while we lounged in the outdoor pool this afternoon.

Now, soggy lake-effect snow isn’t the same as Colorado powder, but I’m still the only one excited about the prospect of skiing in fresh tomorrow morning. The Wife has stuck with cross country this trip — she tried to get back on the slopes, but the knee she blew in Aspen two years ago is still giving her trouble — so she’ll have a fun day as well. The grownups? They’ll be fine, playing games and drinking cocktails.

We did some of that tonight as well, and I crushed everyone else playing Balderdash while we munched on cheese, sausage and caramel corn (Aunt Mary’s, of course) all night. Pix, taken by Aunt Nancy, can be found here.

The drive on Saturday promises to be a complete pain in the ass — they’re forecasting snow driven by 30 mph winds — and by then I’ll be thinking about about this trip was too short.

For now, all I’m thinking about is getting out on the new snow tomorrow morning.

  1. UC-

Hope you had fun today – we’re heading up to the Birshires tonight – ski tomorrow and Sunday – it will be the youngest first time (3 yrs old) – we’ll see what she does – I’m certain she’ll like the hot chocolate – both kids (oldest 6 now) are all decked out – have been wearing their helmets and goggles around the house – we’re ready!

Good luck driving home and also back at work – I’ve got an interesting article from Technology Review I’ll be sending your way – like to get your feedback on the author’s thoughts.

  2. Wow – almost brought tears to my eyes! Great to see the ‘old guard’ out there kicking it up and having a great time – especially Juan’s mom – always a smile – quite contageous I’m sure – and all of the photos of waves (hands and feet) – I don’t know how you all kept from getting the giggles!

As for you, UC – how many ski coats do you have? I like your form – we’ll have to get you out on some steaper slopes and get your knees rolled over a bit – and you’ll be rippin’ like your 20!

I have a comment or two about the impression the chicken noses leave with a viewer, but since UC is a family blog, I’ll pass for now.

Have a great time in the ‘alpha’ burrow this weekend – Mt. Vernon Burrow will be sending out its hogs and harumphs (along with a couple of murmurs).

    Kewyhog, over and out!

  3. My form is better than that — but we were on a hill that isn’t even as steep as my parents’ backyard. And as much as I’d like to rip like was 20, my knees are still 41.

Juan’s Mom skis like the Energizer Bunny — she doesn’t go fast, but she doesn’t stop either.

And yeah, the chicken noses would probably set off parental internet filters in some places … we liked them anyway.
