hack. wheeze. cough.

Advice based on our experiences from the past week, largely from The Wife’s suggestions: Tips for dealing with the flu.

Chicken soup works. The Crappy household endorses the double noodle variety.

Drugs don’t. Yeah, you can take Advil to keep the fever down, but there isn’t a whole lot you can do once you’ve got it.

Work someplace that’s generous with sick days. If you’re not mentally tallying the comp time you’re going to need to tinker with once you go back to work, you’re free to suffer in peace.

Irish whiskey has magical powers. Try this only if you’re not also suffering from stomach issues.

Warm cats. They help you sleep when they’re stretched out next to you.

Finally, and most importantly: Marry the right person. The flu is a lot easier to cope with if you have a patient person to cook dinner and wash dishes while you’re lying on the couch.

  1. A little over a year ago I had the flu and had a temperature of 105 degrees. Because I truly could not move, my kids had complete control of the house. They ate poptarts all day and my 1 1/2 year old took to drawing on the walls with crayons and I could do nothing. I thought I was going to die.

I’ve never tried the Irish Whiskey remedy so I’d replace that on your list with a T.V. with lots of channels. I watched ridiculus, mindless things like the reality show of becoming a Dallas Cowboy Cheer- leader …all six hours of it.

Finally, your good brother-in-law, my husband, left work early to come home, take care of me, clean the walls and put away the poptarts.

We all got the flu shot this year..I’d highly recommend it.

  2. Cindy: Yeah, finding that double noodle soup can be tricky sometimes…

Woy: Of the stuff I listed, the cat is the most optional. If you’re of the correct persuasion — and have the correct breed — a dog could work just as well.

E: Wow. Just … wow. When I read this to The Wife, I almost got her laughing so hard she shot wine from her nose.

And here I thought my niece and nephews were well-behaved angels.
