done. for now.

Uh. They’re still here.

I really thought this latest GD thing would die down, especially after David Lemieux, the band’s archivist and keeper of the Tapers’ Section, gave us a kind of explanation this morning. So. Here’s what I think:

I’m happy that we got something. Actually, I’m thrilled; as old-timers know, this is generally not the band’s way. But David let us know what was going on, and, better still, promised us that Rhino has some goodies are on the way. I’ve said a few times already that what I wanted was communication; this morning, we got it, and, for the most part, I’m happy.

Why the qualifier? There was one thing about David’s explanation that didn’t quite ring true. He told us the intention all along was that the Tapers’ Section was for streaming media only; he and others were shocked — shocked! — to find that a few miscreants had been downloading the files instead.

Since I stumbled onto the Tapers’ Section towards the end of last year, I’ve never seen anything but MP3s available. I have a decent handle on this downloading stuff, and I’m not certain how you’d stream an MP3 file. And David? “Certain fans had been regularly downloading the tracks offered in the Tapers’ Section.” Yeah. Actually, that would be all of us.

But in my mind, that’s a quibble. I may not be in the majority here — and it seems like there are plenty who are as unhappy as they were a week ago — but for now, I got what I wanted.

And while I reserve the right to revisit this topic if it deserves another look, we’ll now be turning our attention to football, especially that of the college variety. I listened to the Ohio State University Marching Band tonight while drafting my fantasy team, and that’s enough to get me all kinds of distracted. And I still need a ticket for the YSU game.

A little help?

    Don’t lose focus man.

Okay, I can live the changes to the GD site / world – maybe a bit has changed, but that looks to be in the delivery and not the content – I agree with your skepticism on the epiphany moment that is a bit obvious to anyone –

but the real shocker – it’s almost all too much to handle – is that you don’t have a ticket to the game – OSU game – Steely McBeam certainly should help. God help us if you don’t get through the pearly gates and into the shoe.

Parting comment on home purchasing now – if you can weed through the approval process, and that may have gotten a good bit tougher right now, home inventory is at a recent high, buyer’s market – thankfully you also are not in both positions, trying to sell and buy – so when are you going to tell the Wife that after you purchase the house you are going to paint it Scarlet and Gray?

  2. The ticket thing is pretty simple, and not all that troubling: Mother-In-Law of Uncle Crappy will be in town, and she and The Wife will be using our tix so they can sit together. Finding a spare for me shouldn’t be any trouble, and it’s a worthy sacrifice for the coolest mother-in-law on the planet.

I will have a rule about this Steely McBeam thing — no mention of the Big Yellow Freak in Ohio State posts. Mixing good mojo and bad … not a good idea.

And the Burgh is definitely a buyer’s market at the moment. Houses are cheap — even scarlet and gray ones.
