When I wrote a year ago about joining the Burgh Moms and Dads on their walk around the north shore — the annual fundraiser for the March of Dimes — I was proud to say that our group of friends had successfully finished a YinzTeam baby boom, all babies present and accounted for. Mrs. Crappy and I have had a great time getting to know all the new kidlings, and we’ll be just as happy to watch them grow up and torture their parents for years to come.

There are two reasons why we’re walking again this year.

First: We’re due for YinzTeam Baby Boom II. A pretty significant number of our friends — some people we actually know and some of our internet buddies — are expecting, and we want everyone to be born healthy, and grow up healthy.

Second: It’s unthinkable even now, but one of our friends delivered a stillborn daughter earlier this year. This shouldn’t happen, ever. It’s unacceptable. And I hope to help make sure that it doesn’t happen. Ever.

We’ve been thrilled for our friends and their families, nearly all of whom have been fortunate to have healthy kids. And it’s horrible that I have to qualify that last sentence with the words “nearly all.”

We shouldn’t have to worry about this stuff. The March of Dimes is working to make sure we don’t. If you can pitch in a few bucks towards my $200 goal, you can help make sure it won’t happen to your family or friends either.

  1. See you there! I am walking sans children this year (well, except the one I’m carrying around), but I’m going to have Dan & the kids meet us after the race. Yay!

And, as a peripheral Yinz Teamer, thanks a lot. :)
