You can’t play all the time, right?
We got up early this morning and set up on the little metal roof over our back porch. We scraped off the old paint, and now Mrs. Crappy is rolling on a thick new layer of special paint that will seal the metal surface for a long time to come.
At least, I hope that’s the case. I found that the sort-of-funny fear of heights I’ve had in the past — the one that makes roller coasters extra fun — has turned into an actual FEAR OF HEIGHTS, serious enough that I had a difficult time swinging my ass around to get back on the ladder. Also, a gallon of this paint cost sixty bucks. So for those reasons, I’d like to not have to do this again for a while.
Once we finished the scraping, Mrs. Crappy stayed up on the roof to sweep up our mess and to paint. I became Gopher Boy — as in, go to the garage for the shop vac, go to the basement for the paint can opener, go to the kitchen for a glass of water. I’m good with that, and we divided and conquered the task pretty quickly.
We didn’t have much time for fun once we were finished, though — I took a quick nap and headed to work, while she took care of some lawn and garden winterization. We had a full day of play on Saturday and there will be more coming this week, as it is, after all, Birthday Week — so let’s get the not-so-fun stuff out of the way so we can get on with the festivities. Right?
