9. seven years old.

The Wife recently brought home a treat that catapulted me backwards by three-plus decades.

She returned from the grocery with a bag popsicles.

I’m sure I’ve had a popsicle more recently, but I immediately felt like I was a kid, digging into the bag and pulling out a neon green frozen double-stick. I plopped down on one of the chairs on our porch and savored that wonderfully sweet lime flavor fill my mouth. In the coming days, I got through the rest of the flavors — cherry, grape, banana — probably one I would have avoided as a kid — and blue.

Yes. Blue flavor. You know what I’m talking about.

As I’ve been wallowing in my sickness for the past couple of days, I’ve come across another reminder of the past — popsicles make sore throats feel better. And they taste a lot better than gargling with warm salt water.

  1. I have to be careful when I grab a box not to get too much of a variety of flavors as the “gross colors” will remain in the freezer forever. When buying popsicle brand I stick to the tried and true..red, orange and purple.

We’re also big fans of Flav-or-Ice. Not quite as messy as popsicles. They come as liquid in long, skinny packages and then they’re frozen.

    Hope you’re feeling better.
