tailgating season.

Tailgating season generally doesn’t start until late August at the earliest for me. But it’s always nice to get in some preseason practice.

Before.
Before.

At the request of Jennie, Mrs. Crappy and I are hosting the tailgate party prior to tomorrow night’s Pirates game. Mrs. Crappy and I are pretty good at this stuff; we organize tailgate parties six or seven times a year back in Columbus, and those tend to be pretty elaborate — nice food, a bloody mary bar, way too much beer, chairs, tables and a bunch of other trappings that are part of our football Saturdays.

After.
After.

We’re also used to doing these for anywhere between 10 and 15 people, with stopovers by a few extra people here and there. Tomorrow’s a bit different: We’ll have at least 30 people along, so we’re trying to keep things simple. Burgers and dogs. Lots of help from friends who are bringing side dishes and snacks along. We’ll be using Father of Uncle Crappy’s patented no-hassle tailgating grills, and generally keeping the fuss to a minimum.

I’ve said this before, but it doesn’t hurt to offer a reminder. If you’re coming, bring what you want to drink; we’ll have plenty of ice in plenty of coolers for your use. And if you want to sit, bring a chair. We have a couple that we’re bringing; seeing as how we’re older than everyone else who’s coming, I can pretty much guarantee we’ll be using them.

And: If you want to go but haven’t done anything about it yet, get in touch with Jennie via Twitter (@jen3700). She’s got a few extra tickets.

Finally — watch for tweet from me or Jennie around 3 p.m. tomorrow; that’s how we’ll let you know where we’re setting up.

It’s going to be a great afternoon, y’all. We’ll see you there.

  1. I’ll be toasting yinz from a pool in Canton tomorrow. I really must hit a tailgate with the Crappies some day. I have never been to a quality one before.
